英語(yǔ)四級(jí)翻譯練習(xí)（刺繡）

刺繡(embroidery)是用針和線或紗線(yarn)在織物或其他材料上進(jìn)行裝飾的手工藝。刺繡最常用在無(wú)檐帽、有檐帽、外套、毛毯、禮服襯衫、長(zhǎng)筒襪、髙爾夫球衫上。令人感到吃驚的是:在刺繡的發(fā)展過(guò)程中，從起初到后來(lái)更精美的階段，讓人感覺不到也說(shuō)不出來(lái)有什么材質(zhì)或技術(shù)的變化。另一方面，我們發(fā)現(xiàn)后來(lái)很少能達(dá)到早期作品中的技術(shù)成就和髙水準(zhǔn)的工藝。

1.令人感到吃驚的是在刺繡的發(fā)展過(guò)程中，從起初到后來(lái)更精美的階段，讓人感覺不到也說(shuō)不出來(lái)有什么材質(zhì)或技術(shù)的變化：“令人感到吃驚的是”可以理解為“這是一個(gè)令人吃驚的事實(shí)”，即It is a striking fact that...,后跟fact的同位語(yǔ)從句;“在...發(fā)展過(guò)程中”可用in the development of表示;“從起初到后來(lái)更精美的階段可用from…to...短語(yǔ)，即as advances from a primitive to a later, more refined stage; “讓人感覺不到也說(shuō)不出來(lái)有什么材質(zhì)或技術(shù)的變化，這個(gè)句子包含了一個(gè)定語(yǔ)從句，主句是there are no changes of materials or techniques,后跟which引導(dǎo)的定語(yǔ)從句;“說(shuō)出”即“解釋、說(shuō)明”，可譯為interpret,其同義詞有：account、translate。
