二、閱讀(45 分)
Passage one
Have you ever met someone and within seconds completely forgotten their name? Remembering people' s names is crucial if you want to build strong relationships in life.
And we all know strong relationships are one of the most important factors for a productive and successful life. So why is it so difficult to remember someone' s name? And what can we do to make sure we' re not left in an awkward situation where we utter those fatal words:"sorry– what was your name again?"
One of the key reasons we forget names is that we don' t "focus" our attention on them. As soon as we' re introduced to someone new, our thoughts are racing ahead to think of "what to say next" and we pay no attention to the name we' ve just been told.
Not only is it embarrassing when this happens, it can also severely damage new relationships.
On the flip side, one of the quickest and easiest ways to build rapport and demonstrate your respect for someone – is to use their name when you' re speaking to them. You may have noticed that successful people who carry a lot of authority in their jobs often use peoples names when they' re speaking.
There are a few things you can do to help you with this.
1. Focus and listen intently. 2. Repeat the name. 3. Associate the Name. 4. Rhyme the name. 5. Note Facial Features.
As you can see, there are many ways to increase your memory when it comes to remembering people' s names. And in my experience it really is worth it to make the effort, especially if it means you escape that dreaded phrase:
"Sorry what was your name again?"

Passage two
An older friend once gave me a piece of advice, “Enjoy the last few weeks of college,” she said, “since college is the best time of your life.”
This was not the first time I’d heard such a statement, but with graduation fast coming close, her words especially struck me. It seemed a bit disappointing to reach one"s life peak at only 22 years of age, but in her opinion, college had been one of the best times in my life so far. I made friends, took classes, and learned a great deal about myself. But I was also excited for the time after college—moving to a new city, starting a new job, and becoming a "real" person. I hoped that my great dreams were practical.
Then, last week I read a column in Real Simple Magazine called 100 Years of Attitude, in which women 100 years or older shared their life experiences and views. I noticed that none of them considered college as the "best" time of their life. Not all of them went to college, but still in most cases their teens and twenties were not the best times of their life. They said some of their favorite times were raising their children, traveling after retirement, and even enjoying their present time and age.
Enjoying one"s present time and age was a clear theme of
the interviews. A piece of advice given by the women was about the importance of making the best of all situations.
I think it more accurate than that of my friend; I can say with certainty that if I am lucky enough to make it to 100,I refuse to spend the last 80 years of my life plummeting (跌落) downhill, or even leveling off.
I am sure that our eagerness and devotion will make us college students live a meaningful life. We will not just look backwards or miss our college days. We will look forward in excitement about continued journey uphill.31、 Which of the following opinions does the writer agree with?

33、The column the writer read is mainly about those old women’s ______.
A.best time of life at youth
B.life experiences and views
C.different opinions about life
D.favorite time with best friends

B.she will not just obtain a college level certificate

D.she will not be content with the life in the future

Passage three
Stress may be defined as the response of the body to any demand. Whenever people experience something pleasant or unpleasant, we say they are under stress. We call pleasant kind “eustress”, the unpleasant kind “distress”.
People sometimes compare our lives with that of the cave man, who didn’t have to worry about the stock market or the atomic bomb. They forget that the cave man worried about being eaten by a bear or about dying of hunger— things that few people worry about today. It’s not that people suffer more stress today; it’s just that they think they do.
It is inconceivable that anyone should have no stress at all. Most people who are ambitious and want to accomplish something live on stress. They need it. But excessive stress is by all means harmful. Worse, chronic exposure to stress over a long time may cause more serious diseases and may actually shorten your life.
The most frequent causes of distress in man are psychological – lack of adaptability, not having a code of behavior. So the secret of cooping with stress is not to avoid it but to do what you like to do and what you were made to do, at your own rate. For most people, it is really a matter of learning how to behave in various situations.
The most important thing is to have a code of life, to know how to live.
36、 The modern man is suffering _____.
A.more stress than the cave man
B.less stress than the cave man
C.different stress from the cave man
D.same stress as the cave man
37、Which of the following is NOT an example that causes distress?
A.Lacking in adaptability and code of life.
B.Killing a bear in hunting.
C.The failure to pass final examinations.
D.Having an economic problem.
38、According to the passage, which of the following statements is NOT true?A.Every one will suffer certain kinds of stress in his life
B.Chronic exposure to stress may shorten your life
C.Excessive stress is especially harmful to health
D.Most people can learn to avoid stress.
39、In the second sentence of the third paragraph,”live on stress” implies that
A、stress is necessary to them
B、they can control stress
C、stress is by all means harmful to them
D、they have too much stress
40、According to the passage, one should .A.try to avoid as much stress as possible
B.cope with stress in different ways
C.learn to do things at his own rate
D.have the response of the body to any demand
Passage four
The phenomenon of lightning has been a source of danger and mystery through the centuries, and only recently have scientists begun to understand its true nature. We know now that lightning is a huge electrical spark caused by the interaction of electrically charged particles in the atmosphere. During a thunderstorm, heavy particles take on a negative charge and fall to the bottom of clouds, while particles holding a positive charge rise to the top.
Lightning results when energy flows between the two types of charges.
What is still not understood is the process by which particles become electrically charged. Most scientists
believe that a cloud’s light ,rising moisture and tiny pieces of ice collide with hail and other heavy, falling
particles. The collision may cause these elements to take on either a positive or negative charge.
The most feared form of lightning is that which strikes the ground in one or more electrical discharges called strokes.
Any one of these strokes is capable of causing death , destroying property ,or igniting fires. It is interesting to note that the bright flash of light produced by a stroke actually occurs as the discharge returns to the sky and not as it descends towards the ground. This return stroke heats surrounding air and causes it to expand, thus producing a wave of pressure called thunder.

A. A Dangerous Phenomena

C. The Nature of Lightning
D. Scientific Mysteries

A. a flow of energy between positive and negative charges
B. discharges in a heavy, thunderstorm
C. the rising and falling of heavy particles
D. great amounts of electricity in the atmosphere
44、According to the passage, particles become electrically charged when ________.
A. light ,ascending matter collides with heavy, falling elements
B. energy flows between light and heavy charged particles
C. heavy particles rise to the tops of clouds
D. a return stroke heats the surrounding air and causes it to expand
45、The author implies that most people believe they observe lightning_______.
A. as being slower than the speed of light
B. only in conjunction with the sound of thunder
C. as it rushes down to strike the earthD. in the form of strokes released in the atmosphere
